Christian Science Reading Room
- before and after services
at the church address

The historical plaque in front of this edifice reads in part: "By 1890, a group of Christian Scientists began to practice Christian Science in Lake Charles. . . .In August of 1918, the group's meeting place was badly damaged in a gulf hurricane. Undaunted, they soon located this building at Gerstner Flying Field. . . .The building had originally served as the Officers Club during World War I. In 1919 it was purchased and moved to its present location. . . ." One of this church's outreaches is participating in the Annual Palm Sunday Tour presented by the Calcasieu Historical Society which always draws large crowds.

The Christian Science Society in Lake Charles, LA, was in the direct path of Hurricane Laura in August 2020 and suffered serious damage to its physical edifice. The congregation is currently meeting in their Sunday School/Reading Room until repairs are completed in their main sanctuary. Progress has been slow and steady, such as the detailed work weather-proofing these historic stained glass windows.
